Community Assessment
Beginning in December 2017, the City of St. Joseph Health Department initiated a focused local assessment utilizing quantitative and qualitative data to determine maternal child health priorities for Buchanan County. Data was collected from various sources to provide statistics on the most significant health issues in our community.
In addition, data was collected from the community using a web-based tool, SurveyMonkey, to gather feedback from the community regarding our most important health issues. The quantitative data was then compared to the opinions of the community to determine which health issues are not only the most important, but ones that members of the community would be most supportive of and amenable to change. From this process, the maternal child health priority health issues were identified.

As of result of the focused local assessment, the City of St. Joseph Health Department has selected “Reduce intentional and unintentional injuries among children and adolescents – Child Safety/Injury” as our Maternal Child Health Priority Health Issue (PHI) with the intent to work on drug prevention measures with community partners.
